At the 2006 Chinese New Year Celebration Party on January 28, 2006, St. Louis County Executive Mr. Charlie Dooley proclaimed “FOR EACH YEAR THE DAY OF CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR'S DAY AS CHINESE CULTURE RECOGNITION DAY”.

PROCLAMATION

THE ST. LOUIS CHINESE COMMUNITY AND ITS VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS WILL PROVIDE A FORUM FOR GREATER APPRECIATION OF CHINESE CULTURE THROUGH EDUCATION AND SOCIAL INTERACTION AND OFFER RESOURCES AND NETWORKING TO MORE FULLY INTEGRATE CHINESE INTO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY; AND

WHEREAS, CITIZENS OF CHINESE ANCESTRY AS WELL AS OTHER HERITAGE WILL BENEFIT FROM THE FRIENDSHIP AND PROGRAMS OFFERED BY THE CHINESE COMMUNITY; AND

WHEREAS, THE “GLOBAL VILLAGE” IS BECOMING SMALLER IN SCALE, BUT LARGER IN IMPORTANCE IN ALL OF OUR LIVES AND IT IS CRUCIAL FOR ALL OF US TO STRIVE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND ONE ANOTHER'S CULTURE; AND

WHEREAS, THE TIES OF FRIENDSHIP AND TRADE BETWEEN PEOPLE OF CHINESE HERITAGE AND THOSE OF THE UNITED STATES MUST CONTINUE TO GROW AND BE STRENGTHENED:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHARLIE A. DOOLEY, COUNTY EXECUTIVE, ST. LOUIS
COUNTY, MISSOURI, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM FOR EACH YEAR THE DAY OF CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR'S DAY AS CHINESE CULTURE RECOGNITION DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY AND ENCOURAGE ALL PEOPLE TO JOIN IN EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO THE ST. LOUIS CHINESE COMMUNITY DURING THIS SPECIAL NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION.
